Baseball Recap: Hastings Takes a Loss

Hastings had lost 23 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-23 to make it 24. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cedar Springs Red Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 on Friday.

As for Cedar Springs, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-21. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

For Cedar Springs' part, the team relied heavily on Callen McCulloch, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinton Bell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Hastings and Cedar Springs could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Saxons (ranked 526th) will meet Western (ranked 254th) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Cedar Springs will square off against Coopersville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (356 vs. 15).
