Baseball Recap: Texico Falls to Robertson in First Game of Season

Texico had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against the Robertson Cardinals, falling 17-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wolverines have suffered since April 16, 2024.

Jesus Chavez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hunter Bowman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Texico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in five consecutive matches dating back to last season.

The victory (which was Robertson's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Texico will square off against Dexter at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Robertson, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Robertson Cardinals take on Taos Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Taos has averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
