Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wiregrass). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over the Edgewood Academy Wildcats on Tuesday. While the Kings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Wiregrass got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayda Dozier out in front who shot 50% from the field en route to 10 points and eight boards. Emma Kelty was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Wiregrass smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the defeat, Edgewood Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jadah Townsend went 11-for-26 to rack up 25 points and seven steals. That was a full 55.6% of the Wildcats' points, marking the seventh time in a row Townsend has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Savannah Wood, who had 12 points.

Wiregrass' victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Edgewood Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
