The City View Mustangs will square off against the Millsap Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in City View's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
City View will bounce into Friday's game after beating Holliday, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs walked away with a 34-27 victory over the Eagles on Thursday.
It was another big night for Malachi Williams, who rushed for 77 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making seven total tackles and defending two passes.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Millsap, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 win over Valley View. That looming 49-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.
Millsap found their leader in sophomore Braun Johnson, who rushed for 162 yards and three scores on only ten carries. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 113 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Madden Gilbert, who threw for 142 yards and one TD while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Millsap didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Corey Goen and Caden Martinez. Millsap got some further help from Gabriel Jones: he made 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended two passes.
City View has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.6 points over those games. As for Millsap, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. City View has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Millsap struggles in that department as they've been averaging 233 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for City View against Millsap in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 55-12 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' Cr Tippie, who rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 150 yards and one TD. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Mustangs to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
