It was fun while it lasted, but Charlotte Christian's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Charlotte Catholic Cougars by a score of 6-5. The loss put an end to the Knights' undefeated start to the season.

Grant Nicholson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Owen Farrell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Darling, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Charlotte Christian fell to 8-1. As for Charlotte Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Charlotte Christian has already played their next contest, a 5-4 defeat against Oak Grove on the 14th. As for Charlotte Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-3 win against Independence on the 14th.
