Basketball Recap: Nickaiya Martin Key Part of a Team Effort in Bulldogs Win

Springfield won against Family Christian on Saturday with 47 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Springfield Bulldogs enjoyed a cozy 47-30 win over Ascension Christian. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Ascension Christian are ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nickaiya Martin, who went 11 for 19 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Martin's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Culbertson, who posted 11 points and six steals.

Springfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Ascension Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Springfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-16 defeat against Denham Springs on the 10th. As for Ascension Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Private at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
