Baseball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Carteret's Winning Streak

Carteret dropped their record down to 6-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kennedy Memorial Mustangs. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Ramblers were not able to get on the board.

Luis Hernandez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Carteret saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Rivera, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Rivera is becoming a predictor of the Ramblers' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

As for Kennedy Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Kennedy Memorial's side, not much got past Grant Lorentzen, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Carteret off the board. Lorentzen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carteret will host Metuchen at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kennedy Memorial, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against South River at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.1, the Rams 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
