Basketball Recap: East Laurens Extends Winning Streak to Nine

East Laurens entered their tilt with Jefferson County on Friday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They breezed by the Jefferson County Warriors to the tune of 63-30. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Warriors are ranked 466th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jayla Givens continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mckayela Tanner, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 14 points.

East Laurens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Jefferson County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaelissia Reeves, who posted six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals, and Sha'Niah Pitts, who earned 11 points and seven steals. The dominant performance also gave Reeves a new career-high in blocks (two). Destiny Jordan was another key player, putting up six points.

East Laurens is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Jefferson County, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Coincidentally, East Laurens and Jefferson County will both be playing Dodge County the next time they take the court. East Laurens will head out to face Dodge County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Jefferson County will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
