Bladensburg hasn't had much luck against Flowers recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will square off against the Jaguars.
Bladensburg is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 28th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Wise, falling 11-1.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Flowers challenged Northwestern on Saturday. The Jaguars were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Wildcats. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Matthew Walker and Luke Hartman were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Walker struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hartman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Walker scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hartman scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hartman has become a key player for Flowers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Marcus Richardson and Aaron Moss did most of the damage at the plate: Richardson went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Moss went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Moss a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ivan Valdez, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.
Flowers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwestern only posted an OBP of .318.
Flowers is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Bladensburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Bladensburg suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Flowers in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
