Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Weymouth's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Weymouth hadn't done well against Walpole recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wildcats walked away with an 8-4 win over the Timberwolves. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 back in April.

Liam Barr tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Alex Munchbach and Will Shanahan did most of the damage at the plate: Munchbach got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Shanahan got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Munchbach has posted since back in May of 2024. Danny Dreyfus was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Weymouth has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Walpole, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Weymouth will square off against Whitman-Hanson Regional at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Walpole has already played their next game (against Westwood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
