Softball Recap: Schurr Extends Home Winning Streak to 12

Schurr came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Montebello Oilers. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sophia De Santiago and Bethany Vallin were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, De Santiago pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Vallin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, De Santiago scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Vallin scored two runs and stole a base. Those two runs gave De Santiago a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Romero, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Samantha Maldonado was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.

Schurr was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Schurr pushed their record up to 13-3-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Montebello, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Coming up, Schurr will take on San Gabriel at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Matadors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.08 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Montebello, they will welcome Bell Gardens at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Oilers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
