Basketball Recap: Brian Ash's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westlake Charter over Elite

If Westlake Charter was feeling good fresh off their 67-31 takedown of Leroy Greene Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Westlake Charter Explorers came up short against the Elite Eagles on Tuesday, falling 64-43. The Explorers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 47-41.

Westlake Charter's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brian Ash, who posted eight points and four steals. Ash is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarriel Taylor, who scored two points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Westlake Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Amir Goss continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Elite, putting up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Dorrion Allen, who earned 12 points.

Westlake Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Elite, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-19 record this season.

Westlake Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 100-19 victory against Delta on the 14th. As for Elite, they will square off against Victory Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. One thing working in Elite's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
