Softball Recap: South Decatur Comes Up Short

South Decatur had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it 11. They came up short against the Southwestern Rebels, falling 12-2. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Rebels from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

South Decatur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalilah Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Martin has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

As for Southwestern, their win bumped their record up to 6-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

On Southwestern's side, Chloey Leach made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Leach was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Riley Crawford was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Rorie Scroggins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, South Decatur will take on Crothersville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Southwestern, they will venture away from home to take on Milan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
