The Covenant Christian Chargers will face off against the Western Michigan Christian Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
Covenant Christian is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Allendale just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Chargers have suffered since March 27th.
Easton Schimmel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Western Michigan Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Vikings.
Alex Wagenmaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, Nathan Clausing was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Caleb McKay was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Western Michigan Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.
Western Michigan Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Covenant Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
Covenant Christian beat Western Michigan Christian 9-5 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
