The Rootstown Rovers fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Springfield Spartans on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. Rootstown lost against Springfield in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 59-39 score last time.

Springfield can attribute much of their success to Anthony Ahern, who scored 31 points along with 3 steals. Logan Gaspar was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 6 rebounds.

Rootstown's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Springfield, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rootstown will square off against Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
