Softball Recap: Marissa/Coulterville Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Marissa/Coulterville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Steeleville on Wednesday. The Meteors put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 16-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Meteors, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Maci McLaughlin, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jenna Shelton, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Marissa/Coulterville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steeleville only managed eight hits.

Marissa/Coulterville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Steeleville, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 7-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marissa/Coulterville will venture away from home to face off against New Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Steeleville, they will head out to challenge Nashville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
