Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Fort Chiswell's Winning Streak

Grayson County hit Fort Chiswell with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers lost 9-2 to the Blue Devils. The Pioneers' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Blair Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jenna Ball made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three doubles and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Lilly Goforth, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Fort Chiswell's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Grayson County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5.

Coincidentally, Fort Chiswell and Grayson County will both be playing Auburn the next time they take the field. The Blue Devils will head out to face the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Pioneers will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
