Basketball Game Preview: Hopi Bruins vs. St. Johns Redskins

Hopi is 0-10 against St. Johns since December of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. The Hopi Bruins will head out to square off against the St. Johns Redskins at 6:00 p.m.

Hopi is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They received a blow as they fell 56-39 to Tuba City. The Bruins were down 47-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Johns). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging an 81-4 victory over Madison Highland Prep. The Redskins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 23 points or more this season.

St. Johns' win came from a few key players Hopi will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Evelyn Andrus, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 11 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Farmer, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds.

St. Johns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups.

St. Johns has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Hopi, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Hopi was taken down by St. Johns 57-23 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hopi was down 40-14.
