Softball Game Preview: Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators vs. Whale Branch Warriors

Lowcountry Leadership is a perfect 3-0 against Whale Branch since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The NaviGators will look to defend their home field against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Lowcountry Leadership has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lowcountry Leadership fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Charleston Math & Science on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riptide. NaviGators fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Riptide since on Friday.

Morgan Gaskins put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bailee Blome made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Whale Branch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 12-0 to Barnwell. The game marked the first time this season in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.

Whale Branch's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Lowcountry Leadership, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.

Lowcountry Leadership took their win against Whale Branch in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 21-1 score. Will the NaviGators repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
