Recap: Homestead Broncos vs. Ferguson Falcons

After a string of seven wins, the Homestead Broncos's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Ferguson by a score of 40-38. Homestead was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ferguson apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Homestead lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kelis Durham. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Durham has scored all season. Ava Ferniza was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.

Cecilia Rodriguez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds for Ferguson. That's the first time this season that Rodriguez scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Masielle Peralta, who scored eight points.

Homestead's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-2. As for Ferguson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homestead will face off against South Miami at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South Miami will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 646th, while Homestead is ranked 145th). As for Ferguson, they will head out on the road to challenge Miami at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Miami will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
