Colerain is 0-10 against Lakota West since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will head out to square off against the Firebirds at 5:00 p.m. Colerain has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Colerain lost 19-2 to Oak Hills on Monday. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Colerain saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexa Hartwig, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lakota West made easy work of Princeton on Monday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Lyla Gully spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Liz Meyer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Jordan Beimesche was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lakota West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lakota West is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Colerain, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colerain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Lakota West struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colerain suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Lakota West when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
