Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Legion Collegiate Academy's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Legion Collegiate Academy gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks by a score of 7-2. That's more bragging rights for the Lancers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Legion Collegiate Academy got a great performance from Griffin McKain as he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts McKain has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Justin Iannetto and Matthew Pond did most of the damage at the plate: Iannetto scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Pond scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Iannetto has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Legion Collegiate Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-2 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legion Collegiate Academy will head out to face off against Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against the Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
