Preview: Tri-State Christian Huskies vs. Morning Star Academy Mustangs
The Tri-State Christian Huskies will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Morning Star Academy Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Tri-State Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 41-8, which was the final score in Tri-State Christian's tilt against Unity Christian on Thursday.
Despite the defeat, Tri-State Christian had strong showings from Alice Udelhofen, who scored no points along with seven steals, and Makayla Zelle, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Udelhofen grabbed two or more steals.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Morning Star Academy was not quite Galesburg Christian's equal in the second half last Friday. Morning Star Academy took a hard 45-27 fall against Galesburg Christian. Morning Star Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Allison Ammann, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Violet Jewell, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Tri-State Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Morning Star Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Tri-State Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Morning Star Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 22.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Tri-State Christian was taken down by Morning Star Academy 52-6 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Tri-State Christian was down 36-0.
