Baseball Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Volunteer Falcons

The Cherokee Chiefs will face off against the Volunteer Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cherokee lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Volunteer, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. Cherokee's pitcher stepped up to hand Volunteer a 15-0 shutout on Monday.

Manning Brooks was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Brooks was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.

In other batting news, Charles Wagoner was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Parker Travis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

Cherokee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Volunteer, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
