Recap: Wakefield Warriors vs. McLean Highlanders
This season hasn't been kind to The Wakefield Warriors, who are still winless after their ninth game. They fell just short of McLean by a score of 14-11. While losing is never fun, Wakefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 261st, while McLean is ranked 93rd).
McLean got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaelan Ferris out in front who rushed for 151 yards, and also caught a touchdown.
Wakefield's loss was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-1 Fairfax and 7-2 Westfield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.3% over those games). As for McLean, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wakefield will take on Washington-Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington-Liberty will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for McLean, they will head out on the road to face off against Langley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Robert Roncskevitz and Ferris.
