Basketball Recap: Merritt Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Universal Learning Academy last Thursday, Merritt Academy came back down to earth. The Merritt Academy Mustangs came up short against the Chavez Academy Aztec Eagles on Tuesday, falling 58-38. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-40 back in December of 2024.

Merritt Academy dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Chavez Academy, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Academy will take on Taylor Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chavez Academy, they will challenge Canton Preparatory at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Canton Preparatory's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
