Baseball Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Beats St. Genevieve for Their Third Straight Victory

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy entered their tilt with St. Genevieve on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Valiants by a score of 11-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in March.

Joshua Rios was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Rios was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 4-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Angel Garcia was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-14 otherwise. Christian Maldonado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy pushed their record up to 8-14 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for St. Genevieve, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Coming up, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is taking a road trip to take on Chadwick at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors are facing the Dolphins at the right time seeing as the Dolphins are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
