Softball Recap: North Penn-Liberty Comes Up Short

After flying high against Sayre on Friday, North Penn-Liberty came back down to earth. The Mountie fell just short of the Towanda Black Knights by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The Mountie were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Black Knights earlier this season, when they won 6-3.

Elyna Booth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Haley Litzelman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

North Penn-Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Towanda, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. North Penn-Liberty will challenge rival Troy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mountie 2.1, the Trojans 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Towanda is set to square off against their familiar foe Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
