Football Recap: John Champe Finds Home Field Redemption Against Stafford + How To Watch

There's no place like home for John Champe, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 41-34 victory over the Stafford Indians on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their seven-point performance the match before.

Tyler Kann continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 115 yards and one score on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Cole Fitzgerald got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: John Champe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Fitzgerald, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Stafford lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Clayton Lemke, who rushed for 47 yards and one TD, and also threw for 188 yards and one touchdown. Nate Leslie was Lemke's top target, picking up 49 receiving yards, while also rushing for 42 yards and one score.

The win got John Champe back to even at 2-2. As for Stafford, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, John Champe and Briar Woods will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Stafford, they will venture away from home to square off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
