Softball Recap: Logan Comes Up Short

Logan had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it six. They lost 17-2 to the Estancia Bears. The Longhorns were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in April of 2019.

As for Estancia, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Estancia's part, Jhenna Valencia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Valencia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karina Villafuerte, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Another player making a difference was Ana Cuevas, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Estancia beat Logan by a score of 15-0 later that day.
