Softball Game Preview: First Baptist Saints vs. Burton Adventist Academy Angels

For the second straight game, First Baptist will face off against Burton Adventist Academy. First Baptist is taking a road trip to challenge Burton Adventist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (First Baptist has six straight wins, Burton Adventist Academy has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, First Baptist made easy work of Burton Adventist Academy and carried off a 16-1 victory. Fans of the Saints have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Allison Munnerlyn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camila Rodriguez, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kimberly Gutierrez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

First Baptist hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive games.

First Baptist pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average this season. As for Burton Adventist Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
