Softball Recap: Leander Takes a Loss

Leander and Smithson Valley squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Leander had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since March 1st.

Kylee Arnold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Leander saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Grundei, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Leander has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 30-12 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Smithson Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 26-3.

Leander does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Smithson Valley, they will challenge Barbers Hill on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rangers 1.4, the Eagles 1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
