Basketball Recap: Waccamaw Warriors vs. Carvers Bay Bears
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Socastee, Waccamaw was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-65 win over the Carvers Bay Bears. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 46-31 loss the last time these two teams met.
Waccamaw was led to victory by Connor Hart and Sutton Cooper. Hart dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Cooper went 8 for 17 en route to 19 points plus eight rebounds and two steals. Hart is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played dating back to last season. AJ Grate was another key player, posting 13 points.
Waccamaw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Carvers Bay saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamie Graham went 7 for 13 en route to 22 points plus two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Washington, who had nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
The victory got Waccamaw back to even at 2-2.
Waccamaw will head out to face off against St. James at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Waccamaw is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season. As for Carvers Bay, they will look to take advantage of their home-court for the first time this season as they take on Andrews at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
