Great Bridge and Hickory are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Hawks at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Great Bridge 2.8, Hickory 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Hickory is facing Great Bridge at the wrong time: Great Bridge suffered their first home loss of the season on Thursday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 9-2 to the Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since May 24, 2024.
Great Bridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Cinnamomd, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hickory). Everything went their way against King's Fork on Thursday as they made off with a 22-4 victory. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on four straight.
Tommy Blackburn looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Hickory: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Brayden Bachman was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Cory Pasiliao was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Hickory was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King's Fork only posted a batting average of .067.
Hickory's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Great Bridge, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.
Great Bridge took their win against Hickory in their previous matchup on April 10th by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
