Basketball Game Preview: Brookhaven Panthers vs. South Jones Braves

The Brookhaven Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the South Jones Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookhaven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.

Last Thursday, Brookhaven earned a 64-54 victory over Natchez. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Brookhaven's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kordell Collins, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most points Collins has posted since back in November of 2024. Nicholas Gamble was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.

Brookhaven smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, South Jones had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 66-53 victory over the Rams. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Rams are ranked 134th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brookhaven has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for South Jones, they pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Brookhaven lost to South Jones on the road by a decisive 57-41 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Brookhaven avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
