Big man has helped Calumet get off to a 3-1 start by contributing on both sides of the ball.

Indiana big man is making a difference in the backfield for Calumet New Tech.

Seeing linemen in the backfield as a lead blocker or ballcarrier never gets old.

More often than not, however, those experiments are short-lived.

But that's not that case at Calumet New Tech (Gary, Ind.), where 6-foot-3, 350-pound senior Joshua Johnson is making a difference as a running back and Wildcat quarterback.

Also a member of the school's basketball team, Johnson has already authored a pretty impressive highlight tape this season — as seen in the video above.

Calumet is 3-1 and Johnson has rumbled for 144 yards and a pair of scores on 12 carries (stats through three games). He also has a reception. Defensively, he's recorded 13 tackles, including a pair of tackles for loss.

The Times of Northwest Indiana profiled Johnson earlier this month. We will let Paul Trembacki tell the story, but this quote is too good not to share:

"I'm a point guard at heart, so I always challenge myself to do little-guy things," Johnson told Trembacki. "I've got good footwork, and I've got good balance, so I just challenge myself to do something new every day, and when the opportunity presented itself for me to run the ball, I said, ‘Hell yeah.' "
