Baseball Recap: Chatham Snags Eighth Win in Last Ten Games

Coxsackie-Athens typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Chatham proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Riverhawks. Eight seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Logan Smalley was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Kelly, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Thomas Pierro was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Chatham is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4.

Coincidentally, Chatham and Coxsackie-Athens will both be playing Maple Hill the next time they take the field. The Panthers will head out to face the Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, while the Riverhawks will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
