Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Lobos vs. Loretto Angels

Chaparral and Loretto are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Chaparral Lobos will take on the Loretto Angels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chaparral saw some tournament action last Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-29 victory over Ysleta. Given the Lobos' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 108th in New Mexico, while the Indians are ranked 1403rd in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Aubrey Dominquez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 26 games she's played dating back to last season. Arianna Molina was another key player, putting up ten points along with six steals and five assists.

Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Loretto, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They strolled past Santa Teresa with points to spare back in December of 2024, taking the game 44-30. That 14 point margin sets a new team best for the Angels this season.

The win got Loretto back to even at 9-9. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 5-8.

Chaparral beat Loretto 49-36 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Chaparral repeat their success, or does Loretto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
