Basketball Recap: Evan Watson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Western Boone

After losing to Western Boone the last time they met, Southmont decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Southmont Mounties secured a 58-54 W over the Western Boone Stars on Friday. The 58-point effort marked the Mounties' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Southmont got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Watson out in front who went 8 for 9 on his way to 17 points. That's the most points Watson has posted since back in February. Austin Foley was another key player, putting up 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Southmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Western Boone still got an impressive performance from Tristyn Faulk, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Faulk continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Westerfeld, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Southmont's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Western Boone, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Southmont will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Crawfordsville at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. As for Western Boone, they will take on Tri-Central in a tournament on December 28th.
