Grants is 1-9 against St. Pius X since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Sartans at 3:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Grants sitting on seven straight wins and St. Pius X on four.
18 must be Grants' lucky number: they beat Newcomb with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Pirates blew past the Skyhawks 18-3. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.

Grants got a massive performance out of Aubrhyanna Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Garcia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Chavez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Grants was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in ten consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Pius X posted their closest victory since March 23, 2024 on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Belen.
Lilee Zarate spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, St. Pius X's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Diamor Ibarra-Villegas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Daniella Romero also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Grants pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for St. Pius X, their win bumped their record up to 10-12.
St. Pius X's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grants has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for St. Pius X, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Grants' sizable advantage in that area, the Sartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
