Football Game Preview: Hanover Area Hawkeyes vs. Wyoming Area Warriors

Hanover Area hasn't had much luck against Wyoming Area recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hawkeyes are taking a road trip to take on the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Hanover Area will be strutting in after a win while Wyoming Area will be coming in after a loss.

Hanover Area's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-0 victory over Tunkhannock. The Hawkeyes pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers had no chance of recovering from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hanover Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dewayne Downey, who rushed for 92 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Downey a new career-high. Another passer making a difference was Logan Richardson, who threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, Wyoming Area was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 35-13 to Berwick. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Hanover Area will have to keep a close watch on Jack Gravine and Luke Kopetchny, a pair of players who had a big impact on Wyoming Area's prior game. Gravine threw for 197 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 passes, while Kopetchny picked up 150 receiving yards and one score. Kopetchny's longest reception was for an incredible 89 yards.

Hanover Area has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.0 points on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Wyoming Area fell to 5-1.

Hanover Area took a serious blow against Wyoming Area in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 55-7. Thankfully for the Hawkeyes, Lidge Kellum (who rushed for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
