Football Game Preview: Weld Central Rebels vs. The Academy Wildcats

The Weld Central Rebels will head out on the road to square off against The Academy Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Weld Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Weld Central against Arvada as the team secured a 50-6 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.

Weld Central can attribute much of their success to Braden Schellenberg, who rushed for 63 yards and two scores on only five carries, and Luke Witzel, who rushed for 62 yards and a pair of TDs.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Weld Central's defense and their four sacks. Bryen Stalcup was especially locked on to Arvada's QB and sacked him twice. Stalcup has been hot recently, having also posted six or more total tackles the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, The Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost to Fort Lupton on the road by a 25-8 margin.

Weld Central's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for The Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Weld Central ended up a good deal behind The Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, losing 42-24. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
