Basketball Recap: Watauga Pioneers vs. Hibriten Panthers

Watauga had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a hard 55-39 fall against the Hibriten Panthers on Tuesday. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Watauga lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mia Mitchell, who posted eight points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Mayo, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 16 points and six rebounds.

Hibriten's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zoe Rector, who shot 53% from the field on her way to 19 points. That's the most points Rector has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aamori Patterson, who went 5-for-9 en route to 12 points in addition to five assists and three blocks.

Coming up, Watauga will square off against Avery County at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hibriten, they will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Alexander Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
