Soccer Game Preview: Vernon Hills vs. Deerfield

The Vernon Hills Cougars will head out to face off against the Deerfield Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Vernon Hills' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Tuesday, Vernon Hills came up short against Grayslake Central and fell 3-1.

Meanwhile, Deerfield entered their tilt with Grant Community on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Deerfield, who have now won three matches by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Grant Community with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Olivia Levin (2), Ryane Emory, and Bella Krummenacher.

Deerfield pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three games. As for Vernon Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2-1.

Vernon Hills skirted past Deerfield 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
