Basketball Recap: Smiths Station Takes a Loss

Smiths Station extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were outmatched by the Oxford Yellow Jackets and fell 79-34. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 59-25 to the Yellow Jackets when the teams met back in December of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Oxford, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 70.0 points this season.

Oxford was led to victory by TaKayvia Boyd and BriOnna Wilson. Boyd dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Wilson shot 45% from the field en route to 22 points along with five boards and four steals. Those 22 points gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was MiKynlei Mosley, who went 6-for-13 on her way to 12 points and three steals.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smiths Station will take on Dadeville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oxford, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Gadsden City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
