Softball Recap: ALA - Queen Creek Comes Up Short

ALA - Queen Creek fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Poston Butte on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 10-8. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Broncos recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Chloe Varvel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over eight innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Varvel was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Varvel wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matea Webster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Another was Tatum Morris, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

ALA - Queen Creek's loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Poston Butte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-8.

While ALA - Queen Creek had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
