Softball Game Preview: Batesville Bulldogs vs. Franklin County Wildcats

Batesville hasn't had much luck against Franklin County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will take on the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Batesville has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Batesville lost 17-7 to South Dearborn on Monday.

Caitlyn Fox and Payton Yorn did some serious damage despite the final result: Fox went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Yorn got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Fox has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Jadah Zins also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Franklin County fell victim to Greensburg and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Jillian Harris spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

On the hitting side, Franklin County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Kaiser, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Franklin County and nudges their season record down to 8-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Batesville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Batesville suffered a grim 30-2 defeat to Franklin County in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
