Recap: Marlin Bulldogs vs. Riesel Indians
The Marlin Bulldogs stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Riesel 73-20 on the road. The victory was nothing new for Marlin as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Marlin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aarik Smith-shelley, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Smith-shelley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Willis, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Riesel struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Marlin's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Riesel, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
Marlin will be playing in front of their home fans against Hubbard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hubbard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1058th, while Marlin is ranked 480th). As for Riesel, they will head out on the road to challenge Wortham at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wortham has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
