The Cypress Creek Coyotes will face off against the Wharton Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Cypress Creek's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Wharton has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Cypress Creek took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wiregrass Ranch, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Cypress Creek won by a run and slipped past Wiregrass Ranch 3-2.
Emily Bowling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Oakley Riley was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Wharton faced off against Plant on Saturday. Wharton fell just short of Plant by a score of 11-10.
Gabriella Greco made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Madelyn Parker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Even though they lost, Wharton lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Cypress Creek now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Wharton, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cypress Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Wharton struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cypress Creek beat Wharton 4-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Will Cypress Creek repeat their success, or does Wharton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
