Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Derrick Brown and Jayden Crews Lead Westwood to Victory

On SaturdayWestwood's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-49 win over the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redhawks have posted since January 17th.

Leading Westwood to victory were Jayden Crews and Derrick Brown. Crews went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and seven boards, while Brown posted nine points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daytron Cockfield, who had eight points and six rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Gray Collegiate Academy lost, don't look at Lamont (Lj) Britt. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Britt is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Chase Starkey was another key player, putting up eight points.

Westwood's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Westwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-38 victory against White Knoll on the 10th. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-32 win against Midland Valley on the 13th.
